Our summer program is coming to an end tomorrow, Thursday July 31st. By WIAA rules we can’t practice again until the start of our fall season which is August 25th.
3 things that must be done before you can participate this fall. There can be NO EXCEPTIONS!
1) Valid physical from your physician
2) ASB card for the 2008/2009 school year
3) AD Catalinich must do a grade check and validate all 3 of these things.
Once you have all this done and signed off by AD Catalinich and only then can you participate in the fall drills. Every year I have been here there seems to always be that one or two of you that wait to long to get your physical taken and then “its please coach I have it scheduled for tomorrow…” however it is a district rule that can’t be broken. If these things aren’t done by the time we start you can’t be in the gym even to watch. It sound harsh but it’s the rules and we will follow them. My experience especially with the physicals is everyone waits until right before school and by then most primary care givers are booked up. So please schedule them early.
Same with getting everything checkout and signed off by the AD office, if you don’t want to wait in a long line I suggest getting in there the first part of the week before tryouts and not wait until 30 minutes before tryouts begin.
Aug 1st – Aug 24th. This a time for you to continue to work on getting into the best shape possible. Tryouts are not designed to get you into shape, it’s your responsibility to come to tryouts in good physical condition… 1) to prevent injuries and 2) so you can perform your best. The last thing you want is to fail to make the team you have set your goal for and end up not making it because you’re too sore or worse getting injured due to not being in shape.
Other things to remember…
1) www.stadiumvolleyball.com You can find the latest calendar, any last minute changes to practice times…etc. Note this is our primary way of communicating with the whole roster. So please check it frequently!!!
2) You must have 10 official practices before you can participate in a match. Even though you might have two practices in a day it only counts as one practice. By WIAA rules, you can only count one practice per day. We barely have enough days before our first match so missing a practice could make you ineligible to play.
3) Bring lots of water and healthy snacks to tryouts. Also come to tryouts hydrated. Meaning the 24 hours prior you should be drinking extra fluids to get you properly hydrated. Being thirsty or not being thirsty has little to do with being hydrated… Drink Water!!!
4) You must have proper athletic shoes, proper socks (note if I can’t see them they are not proper!), and knee pads. We do have a dress code meaning no tank tops. Wear a t-shirt. Your choice on shorts or spandex.
5) No metal in your hair! We are not allowed to have metal such as bobbi pins or clips during matches so we need to learn to play without using them. If I see them you will not be able to practice and this includes the Varsity team too!!! … so make sure to stock up on elastic head bands when your doing your school shopping.
6) There will be no cell phone use during practice. They must remain in your bags even during water breaks. Note those caught using cell phones without permission will be excused from practice for the day.
7) Do not invite your boyfriends or any other male friends to practice they will be asked to leave. This includes the hallway outside the gym. You’re there to participate in volleyball only.
If you’re looking for ways to play some volleyball during this period please consider the volleyball camps put on at UPS. Coach Mark Massey is a great teacher of the game and it is a solid way to get some great practice in before tryouts. Here is the website address for more information http://www.ups.edu/x17411.xml
We are excited to get the season going. We have a great group of returning players and from what I have seen from our incoming freshman class we can’t help but be excited about Stadium Volleyball!!
See you all August 25th!!! Remember to check the website for additional information and for a detailed tryout schedule. Be patient we will get it up there soon!
